Holy الماء / holy water
Yassin Agrbi developed a kinetic installation. He staged a play of light and shadow by means of cut glasse, which he filled with different waters. These were mounted on small platforms on which they rotated. The shadow play was created by colored LED combinations, which were also mounted on the platforms.
طحالب / Algae
In Algae, Yassin Agrebi presents a series of installations made from e-waste and cigarette filters mixed with UV-reactive pigments. Under UV light, these materials transform into glowing forms that resemble marine algae. The work plays with the contrast between pollution and natural aesthetics, highlighting how waste can take on new, organic-like appearances when reimagined through artistic intervention.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Yassine Agrebi is both an electrician and a light artist, based in Tunisia. Since 2018, he’s been taking part in artistic projects with INTERFERENCE and SEE DJERBA, where he works behind the scenes as part of the production team.
His interest in electricity started early—at just 11 years old. What began as curiosity grew into a profession and then into a creative practice. Today, his workshop is filled with wires, tubes, LEDs, and other tools of his trade, which he uses to build light-based artworks. He often plays with UV light and fluorescent paint to bring out new forms and effects.
Yassine’s work is shaped by everyday experience and a strong sense of place. He uses light to reflect on connections—between people, between time periods, and between personal and shared memories. For him, making art is also a way to stay rooted, to share, and to create moments where others can feel a sense of belonging.
