S+T+ARTS RESIDENCY Tunis 2026 c/o INTERFERENCE Tunis

Chipo Mapondra is the artist selected for the S+T+ARTS Afropean Intelligence residency program in Tunis.

The initiative focuses on fostering Afro-European dialogue, supporting artists in utilizing digital tools for social justice, and exploring themes of inclusivity and racial paradigms through 10 residencies across the continent in Congo, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, and South Africa.

BACKGROUND

Chipo Mapondera is a creative technologist of Zimbabwean Rozvi ancestry, exploring her lineage through an intersection of African heritage and immersive technology. Her work channels the ancestral continuum through embodied storytelling, sonic environments and ancestral knowledge.

Digitally facilitated experiences and speculative futures born out of deep traditions emerge from this practice rooted in ritual, ceremony, and indigenous technologies, her work synthesises tradition and a multilayered, diasporic artistic expression, offering contemporary portals into ancestral memory and knowing.
